Quest guide

Where to start on a new character, what each solo story quest needs first, and which quests give you something other than Meseta. Everything below is read out of this server's own quest scripts.

Start here

Three Episode 1 solo quests need nothing cleared first. They are the right first-character content and they are also a gate: almost everything else in the solo story checks that all three are done. Play them on a new character for the familiarity, and for some experience and gear before you join a bigger group.

Magnitude of Metal — Introduces Mags inside the world — what they are and what they do for you.
Reward: 500 Meseta
Claiming a Stake — A quick standard solo run.
Reward: 700 Meseta
Battle Training — Battle basics, and it is exactly that.
Reward: 500 Meseta

There is a fourth quest with no quests in front of it — Seat of the Heart, in Episode 2. It is open only in the sense that no quest gates it; it is Episode 2 content and it is not a starter.

SOUL EATER

And one more that the menu does not show you

Black Paper. This one is not listed as a requirement anywhere in the game. Without it the quest still runs and still pays, and simply never gives you the item.

How to actually get it
  1. Clear the three starter quests - Magnitude of Metal, Claiming a Stake, Battle Training. Nearly everything downstream is gated on all three.
  2. Clear the three Episode 1 government missions: 1-3 Subterranean Den, 2-4 Waterway Shadow, 3-3 Central Control. These are NOT solo-story quests, so a guide built from the solo list alone would not mention them.
  3. Clear Secret Delivery, Dr. Osto's Research, Unsealed Door and Doc's Secret Plan. Those four are what actually put From the Depths in the menu.
  4. Clear Black Paper. THIS ONE IS INVISIBLE: it appears nowhere in From the Depths' menu prerequisites. The quest reads the flag Black Paper sets and silently returns without giving anything if it is not set. You can start it, finish it, take the Meseta and never learn the sword existed.
  5. Have not already received it on this character. The quest checks a got-it-already flag on entry and sets it when it hands the sword over. One per character, permanently.
  6. Play through to the confrontation near the end and win it. The award fires from a floor handler on floor 9, after the scripted fight the quest builds to.
  7. Have a free inventory slot when it fires. From the Depths is one of the well-behaved ones and WILL tell you - and it does not reach the got-it-already flag on that branch, so a full inventory costs you the pickup but not your one chance at the sword. That is not universal; see the inventory warning.

Limits of this note: Five register tests guard the award block. Two are global quest flags and are established. The other three are local to the run - one set at a story beat partway through, two marking the sequence as already fired. They were read, not fully traced. This is source and script reading. Nothing here was tested in game.

Quests that give more than Meseta

Across every quest on the server, 19 hand over a weapon, frame, barrier, unit or ring rather than only money and consumables. Handing it over is not the same as being sure of getting it — several depend on something you do inside the run, and where nobody has written that down the entry says so.

Trading things in

Some quests will take something off you and hand back something else. You need the item on you when you meet them — there is no way to come back for it later in the same run.

Dr. Osto's Research and Unsealed Door

Both of these offer the same trade.

The monster parts go to Dr. Montague, outside the Hunter's Guild on Pioneer 2. He is the one who takes an arm or a wing off you and hands back a weapon made from it.

Where this one comes from. The quest scripts say what goes in and what comes out. They do not name him and do not say where he stands — the game puts no name over an NPC who is not in your party. That part comes from a player who has met him.

Dr. Osto's Research only appears after you clear 2-4:Waterway Shadow, Battle Training, Claiming a Stake, Magnitude of Metal.

Unsealed Door only appears after you clear 2-4:Waterway Shadow, Dr. Osto's Research, Secret Delivery.

Challenge mode

Challenge mode is a separate way to play: a fixed run of stages, timed, with your own gear left behind. It has its own prizes, and they are the only way to get some of them.

Episode 1 — 9 stages

RankWhat you get
Rank San S-rank weapon of your choice, which the game asks you to name yourself
Rank AGODS SHIELD SUZAKU
Rank BGODS SHIELD BYAKKO

The prize goes into your bank, not your inventory, and it is handed over the first time you clear that stage at that rank.

Clearing a stage also gives you a title, and the title says how far you have got:

StageTitle
Stage1Ra-GOU

Stage3Bu-GOU
Stage4Ra-ZAN
Stage5Gi-ZAN
Stage6Bu-ZAN

What this page does not tell you about challenge mode. The times you have to beat for each rank are in the quest scripts, but the number they are written in is not in a unit anybody here has been able to pin down, so no time is printed rather than a wrong one. And whether the rank prize is handed over once or once per stage has not been tested in game.

What this page does not cover, and why

The daily quests are not a separate thing on this page — they are already in it. The rotation draws from a fixed pool of quests belonging to four of the areas above, and it does not change those quests, it only decides which of them are on offer today. So a rotation quest is here on the same terms as any other: you will find it under Quests that give more than Meseta or What changes with difficulty if it qualifies, and nowhere if it does not — because this page has no full quest listing, for rotation quests or for anything else.

That does mean some of the rotation pools have nothing here and others have several, and the reason is not the pools. A pool whose quests all pay plain Meseta contributes nothing to either heading, and a quest outside the rotation entirely is treated identically. The rule is what a quest gives you, not how often it comes round.

The one thing that genuinely changes daily is which of them are live. The daily quest page reads that from the server as it stands.

Shop and exchange counters are left out. 13 quests hand over items the same way a reward does, but they are shops, trade-ins or present counters — the quest data does not mark which is which, so a person had to decide, and these are the ones decided against: AOL CUP -Maximum Attack-, AOL CUP -Sunset Base-, Beach Laughter, Claire's Deal 5, Gallon's Shop, Good Luck!, Item Present, Rappy's Holiday, Respective Tomorrow, Singing by the Beach, St. Valentine's Day, Warrior's Pride, White Day.

And one quest has not been decided either way. Soul of a Blacksmith gives eighteen different items, which is shop-shaped by count and is probably a pick-one reward instead. Nobody has traced it. It is listed in the solo story above with what it can give, and it is kept out of the rewards list until somebody has looked. Saying it is undecided is the point — filed as a shop it would never be looked at again.

55 quests are marked as needing notes that nobody has written. That is deliberate. Where a reward depends on something you do inside the run, the quest script says which internal value has to be set and not what you have to do to set it — only a person who plays it or reads it can bridge that. A quest with no note is visibly missing one rather than quietly looking complete.
